Complete Visual Mold Inspection

A visual inspection is the most important initial step in identifying a possible mold contamination problem. The extent of water damage and mold growth, if any, shall be visually assessed by one of Global's mold inspectors. Ventilation systems shall also be visually checked for damp conditions and for overall cleanliness. Ceiling tiles, gypsum wallboard (sheetrock), cardboard, paper and other cellulose surfaces shall be given careful attention during the visual inspection. The inspector will identify areas of assumed mold growth (AMG) and water intrusion.. Bulk, surface, and or air sampling may be necessary to help quantify and identify ptential sources of mold contamination.

Bulk/Surface Sampling

An inspector, trained in appropriate sampling methodology, shall perform all necessary bulk or surface sampling. Sampling is necessary to confirm the presence or absence of mold if a visual inspection identifies areas of assumed mold growth (AMG) . Bulk samples are collected from visibly moldy surfaces by scraping or cutting materials with a clean tool into a clean plastic bag.

Surface samples are collected by wiping a measured area with a sterile swab or by stripping the suspect surface with clear tape. The sample will then be transferred to a laboratory specializing in mold services for analysis. The swab sample is transferred to a Petri dish and cultured before analysis. In the case of the tape lift the sample will be directly examined under a microscope.

Air Sampling

Samples of indoor air are collected from inside suspect subject areas using Air-O-Cell spore trap samples. Samples of outside (ambient) air are collected for comparison purposes. A total of 150 Liters of air is drawn through each sampling cassette using a high volume pump measured against a calibrated rotameter before and after each use with the average flow reported to the laboratory. The samples are then transferred to a laboratory specializing in mold services for direct microscopic examination and enumeration of mold types and concentration.
